Board of Directors

Rick R. Holley, Chairman
Plum Creek Timber Company

Rick Holley was elected President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Plum Creek in 1994.  Prior to assuming this role, he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 1985.

Mr. Holley began his career at General Electric Company in 1974, where he served in a variety of financial management positions.  In 1983, he joined Burlington Northern, Inc. where he worked as Assistant Vice President, corporate audit.  He held that position until joining Plum Creek in 1985.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and business administration from San Jose State University.  He also completed an advanced education program at Northwestern University.

In addition to serving on Plum Creek’s board, Mr. Holley serves on various other boards, including Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Blethen Corporation and the Seattle Times.  He is also a member of the 12th District Federal Reserve Bank’s Economic Advisory Council and Visiting Committee of the University of Washington, School of Medicine.

Ray Dillon, Vice-Chairman
Deltic Timber Corporation

Ray Dillon became President and Chief Executive Officer for Deltic Timber Corporation on July 1, 2003. Since his arrival, Mr. Dillon has brought to the company a revitalized focus on efficiency and personal accountability within all levels of Deltic’s operations. The effects of this enhancement in core operating principles can be seen in the recent improvements in both the operating and financial results reported by the Company.

Mr. Dillon was Executive Vice President of Gaylord Container Corporation until completion of its sale to Temple Inland Corporation in April 2002. Previously, he served as Vice President-Primary Production Operations and Vice President-Mill Operations for Gaylord, in addition to his other prior responsibilities.

Mr. Dillon began his 25-year career with Gaylord in 1977 as a process engineer at the Bogalusa mill in Bogalusa, Louisiana, for the predecessor of Gaylord, Crown Zellerbach. From 1987 until 1994, he was General Manager of Gaylord’s Pine Bluff, Arkansas, manufacturing facility. During the remainder of his tenure at Gaylord, Mr. Dillon held a variety of senior level positions in the Chicago, Illinois, corporate office of this $1.2 billion manufacturer of container board, corrugated containers, and other forest industry products.

Mr. Dillon earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1977 and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago in 2000.

Bill Brown, Secretary/Treasurer
Green Diamond Resource Company

Bill Brown is President of Green Diamond Resource Co., a privately-held company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, with timberland ownership in Washington, Oregon and California, and redwood lumber manufacturing facilities in California.

Mr. Brown graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a B.S in Engineering and holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Matthew W. Donegan, Immediate Past Chair
Forest Capital Partners

Matt Donegan is co-founder and Co-President of Forest Capital Partners, a private forest landowner and leading grower of sustainably managed, certified timber products. Forest Capital Partners manages working forests in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Louisiana, Texas and Minnesota.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Donegan worked as a forester and investment analyst at Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and as an analyst at the Hancock Timber Resource Group. He was co-founder of US Forest Capital prior to starting Forest Capital Partners.

Mr. Donegan is a professional forester who studied forestry at the University of Florida before earning an MBA with concentrations in forest industries management and finance from the University of Tennessee.

In addition to NAFO, Mr. Donegan serves on the Boards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Oregon Business Council, Oregon Forest Resources Institute, Oregon Innovation Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest, and on the National Council of the National Park Conservation Association. In 2008 Mr. Donegan was appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski to the Oregon Global Warming Commission.

Michael J. Covey
Potlatch Corporation

Mike Covey is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Potlatch Corporation, a publicly traded REIT headquartered in Spokane, Washington. Potlatch owns approximately 1.45 million acres of forestland in Arkansas, Idaho, and Minnesota, and operates five manufacturing facilities that produce lumber and panel products. Potlatch, a verified forest practices leader, is committed to providing superior returns to stockholders through long-term stewardship of its resources.

Mr. Covey began his career with Plum Creek Timber Company in 1982 and served in a variety of assignments in finance, planning and mill management before accepting a role as Executive Vice President where he had responsibility for Plum Creek’s timberland and manufacturing business nationwide based out of Atlanta, Georgia.  Mr. Covey relocated to Spokane, Washington when he joined Potlatch in 2006.

Mr. Covey earned a Bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from the University of Montana and a MBA from the University of Oregon. Additionally, he has completed a Northwestern University executive education program at the Kellogg School of Business.

In addition to residing on the Potlatch board, Mr. Covey also serves as a trustee for the University of Montana Foundation and is a board advisor for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Dan Fulton
Weyerhaeuser Company

Daniel S. Fulton was elected Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors in April 2008. He remains as President of Weyerhaeuser Company, a position he assumed in January 2008. From May 2001 until March 2008 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Company. In January 2004 he was named to Weyerhaeuser Company’s senior management team.

Fulton joined Weyerhaeuser’s investment evaluation department in 1976. He transferred to Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company (WRECO) in 1978 and served in various management and investment positions before becoming President and Chief Executive Officer of Weyerhaeuser Realty Investors and Weyerhaeuser Venture Company from 1998–2000. Before joining Weyerhaeuser, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps.

Fulton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Miami University (Ohio) in 1970. He received a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Washington in 1976, and he completed the Stanford University Executive Program in 2001.

Fulton serves as a board member of United Way of King County and the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the University of Washington Business School and the Policy Advisory Board of the Joint Center of Housing with Harvard University.

Frederick J. Weyerhaeuser
The Lyme Timber Company

Rick Weyerhaeuser has been a Senior Project Manager with The Lyme Timber Company since 2000.  Prior to joining Lyme, he worked with The Pinchot Institute and The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to develop and promote sustainable forestry programs in the US. Mr. Weyerhaeuser is a former State Director of the Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and for ten years was Director of the World Wildlife Fund’s Africa Program.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Seventh American Forest Congress, the Student Conservation Association, the Minnesota Chapter of TNC, and the Forest History Society. Mr. Weyerhaeuser is currently on the Board of the New England Forestry Foundation and also serves on the Leadership Council for the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He earned a B.S. from Yale University in 1977 and a Master of Forest Science from Yale in 1983.

Daniel P. Christensen
Hancock Timber Resource Group

Daniel P. Christensen is Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG), and President of the Hancock Timber Resource Group.

He also is Chairman and CEO of Hancock Natural Resource Group Australia (HNRGA), Hancock Forest Management (HFM) and of Hancock Forest Management New Zealand (HFMNZ).  HFM and HFMNZ provide forest management services for Hancock Timber investments.

Hancock Timber, a division of HNRG, manages 4.6 million acres of timberland in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil on behalf of its investors.

HNRG and HNRGA are operating companies of MFC Global Investment Management, the asset management arm of Manulife Financial Corporation (NYSE: MFC). Toronto-based Manulife is a leading global financial services company, operating primarily though John Hancock in the US.

Mr. Christensen holds a B.S. in Forest Engineering from the University of Maine’s College of Natural Resources, Forestry and Agriculture.

Andrew W. Miller
Stimson Lumber

Andrew Miller is the President and CEO of Stimson Lumber Company, based in Portland, Oregon. Stimson is an integrated timber and wood products manufacturing company, with operations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

Mr. Miller has been with Stimson since 1990 in various roles, including Manager of California Timberlands, Vice President of Western Manufacturing, Vice President of Manufacturing, and Executive Vice President. Prior to joining Stimson, he worked as a sawmill manager for Northwest Hardwoods, a division of Weyerhaeuser, and held analyst positions at Weyerhaeuser and Plum Creek.

Mr. Miller earned a B.A. in Economics from Grinnell College, and an MBA from Columbia University.

Mr. Miller has four teenage children. He enjoys competitive running and skiing. He is a Trustee of the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR, and Board member of Hemcon, a private medical devices company.

Charles Daniel
RMK Timberland Group

Charles Daniel is the President and Chief Investment Officer of RMK Timberland Group. Mr. Daniel is responsible for timberland investment and management functions for all institutional and individual timberland clients of RMK Timberland Group.

Prior to assuming his current role, Daniel was responsible for timberland properties in RMK Timberland’s Southeast timberland region covering Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee. Before joining RMK Timberland in 1996, he worked in various land management and sales positions with Tenneco Packaging, Inc., Foley Timber & Land Company, and Procter and Gamble Cellulose.

Mr. Daniel received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Forestry, B.A. and M.A. Certificates in Latin American Studies and Certificate in Tropical Agriculture from the University of Florida. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters, the American Forestry Association, the Florida Forestry Association, the Georgia Forestry Association, and the Nature Conservancy. Daniel is Chair-Elect for the Florida Section of the Society of American Foresters. He also serves on the Advisory Council for The University of Florida School of Forest Resources and Conservation. Daniel is a member of the Florida Blue Ribbon Panel for Forest Planning 2030.

Dan Giustina
Giustina Resources

Dan Giustina has been the Managing General Partner for Giustina Resources since 1990. Giustina Resources is a family business which traces its initial operations in the wood products business to 1916. The company owns and manages timberlands in Western Oregon and Western Washington, and serves both domestic and international markets.

Mr. Giustina currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Umpqua Bank Board of Directors. His past board positions include Chairman and President of the University of Oregon Foundation, and Chairman of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

David Nunes
Olympic Resource Management

Mr. Nunes is the President and CEO of Olympic Resource Mangament. He assumed his current role in January 2002. He joined the company in 1997 and was initially responsible for the company’s timberland acquisition and portfolio development activities. His prior experience includes nine years with Weyerhaeuser, where he was involved in export log sales and marketing, timberland acquisitions, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and capital planning. He has a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Pomona College and a M.S. in Industrial Administration (MBA) from Carnegie Mellon University.

He received a Bachelors of Science and M.B. A. degree from the University of Oregon.

Dick Molpus
Molpus Woodlands Group, LLC

Dick Molpus is President of The Molpus Woodlands Group, LLC (MWG), a timberland investment management organization headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi. MWG buys and manages timberland across the United States for clients.

A Philadelphia, Mississippi, native and a 1971 business administration graduate of the University of Mississippi, Molpus served for a number of years as vice president of Manufacturing for Molpus Lumber Company.

In 1983, in a race involving seven opponents, Molpus was elected Secretary of State of Mississippi;  he was re-elected by significant margins in 1987 and 1991. During his tenure  Molpus converted the secretary of state’s office from an agency that was a tax drain of $200,000 into one garnering a profit  of over $2 million per year.

As Secretary of State Molpus also served as lands commissioner of Mississippi and in that capacity supervised over 600,000 acres of 16th Section commercial, residential, and timber property that had been set aside in the early 1800s to raise money for the public schools. By forcing renegotiation of some 5,000 below-market leases, he increased by more than $24,000,000 the amount of revenue from those properties to the public schools .

On January 8, 1996, after completing his third term as Secretary of State of Mississippi, Molpus began a timberland investment management organization. Today, The Molpus Woodlands Group, LLC, and its sister operating company manage for investors almost 1,000,000 acres of timberland in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York valued at approximately $1.12 billion. The Molpus companies employ seventy-three people with fourteen offices located strategically across the U.S. Molpus Woodlands and its sister operating company, Molpus Timberlands Management, LLC, are vertically integrated management companies with in-house CPAs, attorneys, foresters, biometricians, and GIS specialists, along with silvicultural and harvesting experts.

Eva Greger
GMO Renewable Resources

Eva Greger has been focused on forestry investing since 1985. Prior to joining GMO, she was responsible for evaluating and structuring acquisitions for Resource Investments, Inc., one of the pioneers in timber investing for institutional clients.

Since founding GMO Renewable Resources in 1997, Ms. Greger has grown its portfolio under management to over $2 billion dollars comprised of more than 3 million acres in timberland worldwide. These portfolios include properties across the U.S. as well as New Zealand, Australia, and South America. Ms. Greger is the Managing Director of GMO Renewable Resources, LLC, and chairs its Investment Committee.

Ms. Greger earned her B.A. in Economics from Harvard University and has studied timber economics at Duke University and the University of Georgia.

Rene Ancinas
Port Blakely Companies

René Ancinas is President and Chief Executive Officer of Port Blakely Companies, a fourth-generation family-owned business which owns and operates working forests in Washington and Oregon (Port Blakely Tree Farms) and New Zealand (Blakely Pacific); residential real estate and mixed-use community development (Port Blakely Communities), and log exports (Pacific Lumber and Shipping).

Mr. Ancinas joined the Northwest-based company in 2005 as a succession candidate for the role of Chief Executive Officer. He was officially named CEO designee for the organization in December 2008 and assumed the CEO role in July 2010. Prior to joining Port Blakely Companies, Mr. Ancinas was a founding member and first President of the Eddy Family Council, where he led a five-year effort to establish a sustainable family business governance structure.

Mr. Ancinas has extensive experience in program management and product development. He spent several years with Kodak EasyShare Gallery (formerly Ofoto.com) as senior technical program manager overseeing cross-functional teams that designed, developed and launched consumer products using digital images.

In addition to NAFO, Mr. Ancinas serves on the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Community Development Roundtable, and belongs to Young Presidents Organization.

A professionally trained classical clarinetist, Mr. Ancinas received a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in 1988, and Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1990. He earned an Executive MBA from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business in 2009.

Jess Jarratt
Wells Timberland REIT

As President of Wells Timberland Management Organization (TIMO), Jess Jarratt is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of timberland operations for Wells, including timberland acquisitions and dispositions, portfolio and property management, and timberland financing.

Prior to joining Wells, Mr. Jarratt was a managing director for SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s Structured Real Estate Group. He was also Vice President of Rabobank International, a multinational Dutch bank, where he led corporate lending activities for U.S. agribusiness, timberland, and forest products companies.

Jess Jarratt is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and he has completed the Harvard Business School Executive Agribusiness Program. He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Forestry from Texas A&M University; and an M.B. A. from the University of North Texas.

James D. Irving
J.D. Irving, Ltd.

Mr. James D. Irving is President of J. D. Irving, Limited, a diverse, family-owned enterprise with over 125 years of involvement in the business community.

Founded in 1882, J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI), has operations in Eastern Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador), and the United States. J.D. Irving, Limited, is one of the top five private land owners in North America with over 3.4 million acres of freehold land.

Mr. Irving is actively involved in leading the company’s efforts in wild Atlantic salmon conservation and research as well as education partnerships with middle, secondary and post secondary schools.  The company has won several national education awards for its leadership in developing business-education initiatives for young people.

L. Michael Kelly
Forest Investment Associates

Michael Kelly is President and Chairman of the Investment and Executive Committees of Forest Investment Associates (FIA), a Registered Investment Advisor specializing in timberland investment management for institutional and private investors. FIA manages approximately 2 million acres of timberland in 16 U.S. states for its clients.

Joining FIA in 1990, Michael served as Management Forester, Vice President and Director of Timberland Management and Executive Vice President before being named President. Prior to FIA, he worked for International Paper Company, holding positions in timberland management, wood fiber procurement, fiber flow planning and cost analysis.

Michael is a Certified Forester, a Registered Forester and a member of the Society of American Foresters, serving recently as Secretary of the Southeastern Society and Chair of the Georgia Division. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Forest History Society and on the Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences Advisory Council.

Mr. Kelly holds a B.S. in Forestry from Auburn University and an M.B.A. from the University of South Alabama.

Marc Brinkmeyer
Idaho Forest Group

Marc Brinkmeyer is the Chairman, President and Co-Owner of the Idaho Forest Group, the largest lumber producer in the Intermountain West. In 2008 the Riley Creek Mills merged with Bennett Forest Industries to form Idaho Forest Group. The new venture is the largest lumber producer in the Inter-Mountain West. Marc founded Riley Creek in 1981. He begin his career in public accounting in Portland, Oregon working with medium- and large-size companies including several in the forest products sector. He then became Chief Financial Officer of Brand-S Corporation, a privately owned lumber manufacturing company.

Riley Creek has grown to be the largest lumber producer in Idaho consisting of state of the art production facilities located at Laclede, Chilco and Moyie Springs. The Company also has 65,000 acres of timberland in Washington, Idaho and Montana, cutting rights to 300,000 acres in central Idaho and strategic relationships with other industrial forest land owners.

He is active in many organizations including past Chairman, Western Wood Products Association, past President of the Intermountain Forest Association. He has recently been appointed as a member of the BI-National North American Lumber Council. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Buena Vista University.

Mark Doumit
Washington Forest Protection Association

Mark Doumit has been Executive Director of the Washington Forest Protection Association since November 1, 2006.

Prior to his appointment as WFPA Executive Director, Mark served as a Washington State Senator from 2002-2006 and as a Washington State Representative from 1996-2002.  He also served as Wahkiakum County Commissioner for eight years.

Mark received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Washington State University.

Mark is the owner of a 210-acre commercial tree farm and also a commercial fisherman, owning 2.5 commercial salmon fishing vessels. He grew up in Cathlamet, Washington, and continues to live there with is wife, Mindy, and three sons – Matthew, Benjamin and David. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Independent Colleges of Washington, the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition and the Association of Washington Business.

Michael (Mike) E. Case
The Westervelt Company

Mike was named President and CEO of Gulf States Paper Corporation (later renamed The Westervelt Company) in 2000. The Westervelt Company, founded in 1884, is a privately held land and land management company, owning approximately 500,000 acres in the Southeastern United States and 40,000 acres in New Zealand. Prior to being named President, Mike served as Executive Vice President for Pulp and Paperboard (1996), Vice President of Strategic Planning (1994) and Vice President Sales, Pulp and Paperboard (1993).

Mike serves on the Board of the American Forest and Paper Association, United Way of West Alabama, The University of Alabama’s Business School and The President’s Cabinet of the University of Alabama.

Mike received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in marketing from the University of Alabama.

Paul Boynton
Rayonier

Paul Boynton is the Executive Vice President, Forest Resources and Resoureces and Real Estate. Paul was elected to his current position in November 2009 after serving as Senior Vice President, Performance Fibers & Wood Products. He joined Rayonier in 1999 as Director of Performance Fibers Marketing and Sales, and was later named Vice President, Performance Fibers in 2002.

Prior to Rayonier, Paul was with the 3M Corporation as Global Brand Manager for the home care division from 1990 to 1999. He had previously served as a reliability and quality engineer with Motorola.

Paul holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University, and an MBA from the University of Iowa. He has completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration Advanced Management Program.

Craig Blair
Resource Management Service, LLC

Craig Blair is the President and CEO of Resource Management Service, LLC (RMS).  Founded in 1950, RMS is a privately-held timberland investment firm managing 2.7 million acres of sustainable plantations in the United States, Brazil and China.

Before becoming President, Craig led RMS’ investment management team with responsibility for investment strategy, research, business development, portfolio management and client relations.  Over a 28-year career he has held a variety of positions at RMS and in the forest products industry, with experience in acquisitions, resource planning, forest management and wood procurement.

Craig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and a Master of Forestry degree in Forest Business from Mississippi State University.

Scott P. Jones
Forest Landowners Association

Scott is the Chief Executive Officer of the Forest Landowners Association, a national landowner advocacy organization which strives to support through advocacy, education and information, forest landowner’s responsible management of their private property.

Scott has a BSFR from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia, is a SAF certified forester and GA registered forester. He spent five years in land management and procurement with a paper company in North Florida and has worked on Government Affairs issues dealing with forestry for the Georgia Forestry Association and the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association.

Toby Luther
Lone Rock Timber Company

Toby is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Lone Rock Timber Company, a family-held timberland company in Roseburg, Oregon.

Joining Lone Rock in 2001, Mr. Luther served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer before being named President.  Prior to Lone Rock, Mr. Luther served as Corporate Controller for U.S. Timberlands, LP and as a CPA for PricewaterhouseCoopers LP.

He received his Bachelor of Sciences degree from Oregon State University in Business Administration with an emphasis on accounting.

Tom Colgan
Wagner Forest Management

Tom Colgan is President and CEO of Wagner Forest Management Ltd.  Wagner manages over 2.6 million acres in the northeastern United States and Canada.  Mr. Colgan has a B.S. from Duke University and a Master of Forestry degree from Duke. He has spent his entire career in the forestry business in Maine and New Hampshire.
