WASHINGTON, DC, June 16, 2016 – National Alliance of Forest Owners President and CEO, Dave Tenny, issued the following statement on the inclusion of a provision recognizing the carbon benefits of forest biomass energy in the FY17 Interior Appropriations bill reported today by the Senate Appropriations Committee:

“Forest owners appreciate the leadership of the Senate Appropriations Committee to recognize the carbon benefits of biomass energy,” Tenny said. “We especially appreciate the efforts of Senators Collins and Merkley and their colleagues on both sides of the aisle who have worked hard to bring us to this point.”

“The Senate language appropriately embraces the fundamental principle that biomass energy from forests where we continue to grow more wood than we harvest is a carbon solution. We look forward to working with Senators Collins and Merkley and our friends on both sides of the aisle to secure enactment of a final biomass provision later this year.”
