WASHINGTON, DC, July 14, 2016 – National Alliance of Forest Owners President and CEO, Dave Tenny, issued the following statement on the inclusion of a provision recognizing the carbon benefits of forest biomass energy in the FY17 Interior Appropriations bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives today:

“Forest owners appreciate the leadership of the House Appropriations Committee to recognize the carbon benefits of biomass energy,” Tenny said. “We especially appreciate the efforts of Congressmen Mike Simpson and Ken Calvert and their colleagues on both sides of the aisle who have worked hard to bring us to this point today.”

“The House language appropriately embraces the fundamental principle that biomass energy from forests where we continue to grow more wood than we harvest is a carbon solution. We look forward to working with Congress to secure enactment of a final biomass provision later this year.”
